Our mission is to provide families with Live-In Carers of the highest calibre; Carers who we would be happy to have caring for our own loved ones. Our passion is built upon over 35 years of experience alongside our own personal story.
Our Story
A much-loved member of our family was diagnosed with both Stroke Induced Dementia and Alzheimer’s. For several years her husband with the support and help from family were able to care for her and she was happy, despite her illness. Suddenly, our family was hit with both the shock of his hospitalisation and then his passing. We now had the need to care for our loved one, who by this time was unable to be left alone. Alongside our grief, we also had work commitments and our initial response in order to ensure our loved one had 24-hour care was to find a good Residential Home.
Unfortunately, our loved one did not thrive within the Home. Although the care she received was good, it was not the loving, personal 1-1 environment she was used to. Within a couple of months, her condition had deteriorated drastically. She was sometimes anxious or withdrawn and unresponsive, suffered from repeated chest infections and spent most of her time curled in a chair sleeping. Our GP informed us that we needed to accept that she probably only had a few months left. We decided to bring her home and organise her care ourselves. We engaged a small team of private carers who were known to us.
They provided the 1-1 personalised care she so desperately needed and her physical and emotional wellbeing dramatically improved almost immediately. She now had someone to sit beside her and hold her hand as she watched TV.
Someone who would play her favourite music and, as her condition improved further, even dance with her. Her appetite improved as she was offered favourite foods. Back home she visibly relaxed and we were rewarded with her wonderful smile. She had a companion again – someone who put her needs first – who provided care but so much more. We could pop by for a quick cuppa, to watch a film together or for a weekend visit just as we always had. As a result, our loved one’s last years were happy and peaceful. We formed Vita Cura because we wanted to help and support families who were going through similar experiences. Families who need to organise the best possible care for those they love.
We are passionate about high-quality care centered around the individual. Research has shown that people who remain in a familiar environment (surrounded by memories, belongings, family, pets and neighbours) in conjunction with personalised care suffer from less mental, emotional and physical deterioration. This was certainly true for us.
Our personal experiences have brought it home to us that although you can have a vast amount of knowledge, expertise and training within a particular field, that it is not until you have experienced a similar situation that you fully understand. We believe passionately in the benefits of Live-In Care. We understand how the right kind of individualised 1-1 care can make a huge difference to a loved one’s quality of life.
Our aim is to help and support other families to gain access to the highest quality of care at a price which is comparable to that of other forms of care.
